Confidentiality & Privacy
The law protects the relationship between a client and a psychotherapist, and information cannot be disclosed without written permission.
Exceptions include:
- Suspected child, dependent adult, or elder abuse which I am legally required to immediately report to the appropriate authorities.
- Threats of serious bodily harm to another person or people which I am legally required to immediately report to the police and intended victim(s).
- Intentions of serious bodily self-harm which—only after making every effort to enlist this client's cooperation in ensuring his/her safety—I am legally required to immediately take measures without his/her permission in order to ensure his/her safety.
